Chapter 1: Network Security

In this section, we will cover all topics related to networks, from devices (e.g., routers and switches) to network principles (e.g., firewall rules) and network design (e.g., subnetting). You will learn about, and how to implement, common protocols, such as SSL and IPSec, as well as how to identify common ports, such as HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP. Lastly, we will cover wireless network security and considerations, such as encryption and SSIDs. The core Security+ exam objectives covered in this chapter are as follows:

  • Explain the security function and purpose of network devices and technologies
  • Apply and implement secure network administration principles
  • Distinguish and differentiate network design elements and compounds
  • Implement and use common protocols
  • Identify commonly used default network ports
  • Implement a wireless network in a secure manner
  • Quizzes
