Enterprise WAN Design – WAN Design Methodologies

The enterprise edge design process must follow the PPDIOO (Prepare, Plan, Design, Implement, Operate, Optimize) process steps described previously. The designer should carefully analyze the following network requirements:

  • The types of applications and their WAN requirements
  • Traffic volume
  • Traffic patterns (including possible points of congestion)

As part of the preparing and planning phases, you should analyze the existing network to investigate which technologies are currently being used for wide area networking and the issues regarding those technologies, and you should document the location of key hosts, servers, and network infrastructure devices.
