Traditionally, the voice solution was a separate architecture from the IP solution. However, modern organizations are driving toward an integrated solution to digitize voice packets and move them over the IP network and the public Internet. This concept was generated because data is much more predominant than voice traffic, and organizations want to lower the overall costs of wide area networking by merging data and voice technologies and leveraging the existing network infrastructure to accommodate voice traffic as well.
Because of the large scale of the PSTN systems, this process is not able to adapt fast enough to keep up . . .
