ISP Multi-Homing Design

When connecting the e-commerce submodule to multiple ISPs, multiple design topologies can be implemented:

  • One firewall per ISP
  • Stateful failover with a common external prefix
  • Distributed data centers

 
One Firewall per ISP
The most common e-commerce design topology for connecting multiple ISPs is to have a single firewall per provider. The path to each ISP will be managed by a dedicated edge router that is positioned in front of the firewalls, as illustrated in Figure 8.7 below:
