The different types of packets sent by OSPF routers are contained in the common 24-byte OSPF header. While delving into the specifics of the OSPF header is beyond the scope of the CCNA exam requirements, it is still important to have a basic understanding of the fields contained within this header and what they are used for. Figure 39.6 below illustrates the common 24-octet OSPF header:
