Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) is a network protocol used to encapsulate PPP frames inside Ethernet frames.

As customers deploy ADSL, they must support PPP-style authentication and authorisation over a large installed base of legacy bridging customer premises equipment (CPE).
