Referencing Figure 10-10, the following sequence of steps is undertaken before a PPPoE session is established between the PPPoE client and the aggregator. The aggregator is simply a router within the DSL network that is used to establish the PPPoE session with clients, amongst other things.  Beginning with the client Broadcast initiation packet, the steps are as follows:
