Task 6

Given the requirements, this configuration requires the use of two distribute lists for the EIGRP route filtering. This configuration is implemented on R3 as follows:

R3(config)#ip prefix-list FROM-R1 seq 1 permit 172.1.1.1/32
R3(config)#ip prefix-list FROM-R1 seq 2 permit 172.3.3.3/32
R3(config)#ip prefix-list FROM-R1 seq 3 permit 150.0.0.0/8 ge 24
!
R3(config)#ip prefix-list FROM-R2 seq 1 permit 172.2.2.2/32
R3(config)#ip prefix-list FROM-R2 seq 2 permit 172.4.4.4/32
R3(config)#ip prefix-list FROM-R2 seq 3 permit 150.0.0.0/8 ge 24
!
R3(config)#router eigrp 1
R3(config-router)#distribute-list prefix FROM-R1 in serial 0/1
R3(config-router)#distribute-list prefix FROM-R2 in serial 1/1
R3(config-router)#exit

Verify your configuration using the show ip route eigrp command. If your configuration is correct, the following entries should be reflected in the routing table on R3:

R3#show ip route eigrp | include 172|150
172.1.0.0/32 is subnetted, 1 subnets
D EX    172.1.1.1 [170/2297856] via 10.0.0.5, 00:00:37, Serial0/1
172.2.0.0/32 is subnetted, 1 subnets
D EX    172.2.2.2 [170/2809856] via 10.0.0.9, 00:01:50, Serial1/1
172.3.0.0/32 is subnetted, 1 subnets

D       150.2.2.0 [90/2195456] via 10.0.0.9, 00:00:21, Serial1/1

Task 7

Given the requirements, this configuration requires the use of a distribute list for the R3 EIGRP route filtering plus the use of the ip summary-address command to generate and advertise the default route to R4. This configuration is implemented on R3 as follows:

R3(config)#ip prefix-list TO-R4 seq 1 permit 0.0.0.0/0
R3(config)#router eigrp 1
R3(config-router)#distribute-list prefix TO-R4 out serial 0/0
R3(config-router)#exit
R3(config)#interface serial 0/0
R3(config-if)#ip summary-address eigrp 1 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0
R3(config-if)#exit

Use the show ip route command on R4 to verify that only the default route is received:

R4#show ip route eigrp
D*   0.0.0.0/0 [90/2195456] via 10.0.0.13, 00:00:39, Serial0/0

Use simple ping tests to verify that R4 can ping the 172.x.x.x and 150.x.x.x subnets:

R4#ping 172.2.2.2
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 172.2.2.2, timeout is 2 seconds:
!!!!!
Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 4/4/4 ms
R4#ping 172.3.3.3
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 172.3.3.3, timeout is 2 seconds:
!!!!!
Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 1/3/4 ms
R4#ping 172.4.4.4
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 172.4.4.4, timeout is 2 seconds:
!!!!!
Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 4/4/4 ms
R4#ping 150.1.1.1
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 150.1.1.1, timeout is 2 seconds:
!!!!!
Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 1/3/4 ms
R4#ping 150.2.2.2
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 150.2.2.2, timeout is 2 seconds:
!!!!!
Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 4/4/4 ms
R4#ping 150.3.3.3
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 150.3.3.3, timeout is 2 seconds:
!!!!!
Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 4/4/4 ms

Task 8

This task requires some thought. First, the task calls for load balancing and not for load sharing. Therefore, thevariance command cannot be used. In order to ensure that the metrics are the same, EIGRP offset lists will need to be used. The simplest method will be to offset the route metric of the best route such that it is equal to that of the worst (second) route. This will ensure that both routes have the same metric and EIGRP will automatically load balance. To complete this task, first use the show ip eigrp topology command to determine the route metrics:

R3#show ip eigrp topology 150.1.1.0/24
IP-EIGRP (AS 1): Topology entry for 150.1.1.0/24
State is Passive, Query origin flag is 1, 1 Successor(s), FD is 2172416
Routing Descriptor Blocks:
10.0.0.5 (Serial0/1), from 10.0.0.5, Send flag is 0x0
Composite metric is (2172416/28160), Route is Internal
Vector metric:
Minimum bandwidth is 1544 Kbit
Total delay is 20100 microseconds
Reliability is 255/255
Load is 1/255
Minimum MTU is 1500
Hop count is 1
10.0.0.9 (Serial1/1), from 10.0.0.9, Send flag is 0x0
Composite metric is (2684416/2172416), Route is Internal
Vector metric:
Minimum bandwidth is 1544 Kbit
Total delay is 40100 microseconds
Reliability is 255/255
Load is 1/255
Minimum MTU is 1500
Hop count is 2

Next, subtract the lowest (best) metric from the highest (worst) metric. Using the output above, we subtract 2172416 from 2684416 leaving us with a balance of 512000. The same logic is also applicable to the 150.2.2.0/24 prefix:

R3#show ip eigrp topology 150.2.2.0/24
IP-EIGRP (AS 1): Topology entry for 150.2.2.0/24
State is Passive, Query origin flag is 1, 1 Successor(s), FD is 2195456
Routing Descriptor Blocks:
10.0.0.9 (Serial1/1), from 10.0.0.9, Send flag is 0x0
Composite metric is (2195456/51200), Route is Internal
Vector metric:
Minimum bandwidth is 1544 Kbit
Total delay is 21000 microseconds
Reliability is 128/255
Load is 1/255
Minimum MTU is 1500
Hop count is 1
10.0.0.5 (Serial0/1), from 10.0.0.5, Send flag is 0x0
Composite metric is (2707456/2195456), Route is Internal
Vector metric:
Minimum bandwidth is 1544 Kbit
Total delay is 41000 microseconds
Reliability is 128/255
Load is 1/255
Minimum MTU is 1500
Hop count is 2

Following the same logic, if we subtract 2195456 from 2707456 the remaining balance is 512000. Following this, the offset lists are configured on R3 as follows:

R3(config)#ip access-list standard R1-LAN
R3(config-std-nacl)#permit host 150.1.1.0
R3(config-std-nacl)#exit
R3(config)#ip access-list standard R2-LAN
R3(config-std-nacl)#permit host 150.2.2.0
R3(config-std-nacl)#exit
R3(config)#router eigrp 1
R3(config-router)#offset-list R1-LAN in 512000 serial 0/1
R3(config-router)#offset-list R2-LAN in 512000 serial 1/1
R3(config-router)#end

Next, verify the load balancing using the show ip route command for both prefixes. R3 will now show the following for the 150.1.1.0/24 prefix:

R3#show ip route 150.1.1.0 255.255.255.0
Routing entry for 150.1.1.0/24

Redistributing via eigrp 1
Last update from 10.0.0.9 on Serial1/1, 00:02:18 ago
Routing Descriptor Blocks:
10.0.0.9, from 10.0.0.9, 00:02:18 ago, via Serial1/1
Route metric is 2684416, traffic share count is 1
Total delay is 40100 microseconds, minimum bandwidth is 1544 Kbit
Reliability 255/255, minimum MTU 1500 bytes
Loading 1/255, Hops 2
* 10.0.0.5, from 10.0.0.5, 00:02:18 ago, via Serial0/1

Total delay is 40100 microseconds, minimum bandwidth is 1544 Kbit
Reliability 255/255, minimum MTU 1500 bytes
Loading 1/255, Hops 1

R3 will now show the following for the 150.2.2.0/24 prefix:

R3#show ip route 150.2.2.0 255.255.255.0
Routing entry for 150.2.2.0/24
Known via “eigrp 1”, distance 90, metric 2707456, type internal

Loading 1/255, Hops 2

Task 9

Remember that when configuring EIGRP authentication, the key chain name does NOT need to be the same; however, the key number used for authentication must be the same.

R3(config)#key chain R3-AUTH
R3(config-keychain)#key 1
R3(config-keychain-key)#key-string ROUTE
R3(config-keychain-key)#exit
R3(config-keychain)#exit
R3(config)#interface serial 0/0
R3(config-if)#ip authentication mode eigrp 1 md5
R3(config-if)#ip authentication key-chain eigrp 1 R3-AUTH
R3(config-if)#end

R4(config)#key chain R4-AUTH
R4(config-keychain)#key 1
R4(config-keychain-key)#key-string ROUTE
R4(config-keychain-key)#exit
R4(config-keychain)#exit
R4(config)#interface serial 0/0
R4(config-if)#ip authentication mode eigrp 1 md5
R4(config-if)#ip authentication key-chain eigrp 1 R4-AUTH
R4(config-if)#end

Next, use the show ip eigrp interfaces detail command to validate the configuration:

R4#show ip eigrp interfaces detail serial 0/0
IP-EIGRP interfaces for process 1
Xmit Queue Mean Pacing Time Multicast Pending
Interface Peers Un/Reliable SRTT Un/Reliable Flow Timer Routes
Se0/0 1 0/0 4 0/15 50 0

Mcast exceptions: 0  CR packets: 0  ACKs suppressed: 6
Retransmissions sent: 1  Out-of-sequence rcvd: 1
Authentication mode is md5,  key-chain is “R4-AUTH”
Use unicast

Task 10

As described in the ROUTE guide, an alternative method that can be used for route filtering is to use the distancecommand. Before implementing this configuration, R1 shows the following Loopback 0 subnet entries in the routing table:

R1#show ip route eigrp | include /32
     2.0.0.0/32 is subnetted, 1 subnets
     3.0.0.0/32 is subnetted, 1 subnets
     4.0.0.0/32 is subnetted, 1 subnets

The configuration required to complete this task is implemented as follows:

R1(config)#ip access-list standard LOOPBACK-SUBNETS
R1(config-std-nacl)#permit host 2.2.2.2
R1(config-std-nacl)#permit host 3.3.3.3
R1(config-std-nacl)#permit host 4.4.4.4
R1(config-std-nacl)#exit
R1(config)#router eigrp 1
R1(config-router)#distance 255 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 LOOPBACK-SUBNETS
R1(config-router)#end

Following this configuration, the Loopback0 subnets are no longer present in the routing table:

R1#show ip route eigrp | include /32
R1#

You can also use the show ip access-lists command to see matches against the ACL:

R1#show ip access-lists
Standard IP access list LOOPBACK-SUBNETS
    10 permit 2.2.2.2 (2 matches)
    20 permit 3.3.3.3 (3 matches)
    30 permit 4.4.4.4 (3 matches)
