An enhanced version to BGP, called BGP4+ or Multiprotocol BGP (MP-BGP) extends the default BGPv4 specification to include multiple protocol extensions for address families such as IPv6. RFC 2858 and RFC 2545 define the attributes that were updated to handle IPv6 addresses with MP-BGP. These attributes are the NEXT_HOP attribute and the NLRI attribute.
