Task 2

NOTE: It is assumed that the ipv6 unicast-routing command was already enabled when you first configured IPv6 addressing on the routers

R1(config)#ipv6 router rip R1-RIP
R1(config-rtr)#exit
R1(config)#interface fastethernet 0/0
R1(config-if)#ipv6 rip R1-RIP enable
R1(config-if)#ipv6 enable

Task 3

R2(config)#ip route 3.3.3.3 255.255.255.255 serial 0/1
R2(config)#interface tunnel 0
R2(config-if)#ipv6 address fec0:abcd::2/64
R2(config-if)#tunnel source loopback 0
R2(config-if)#tunnel destination 3.3.3.3
R2(config-if)#tunnel mode ipv6ip
R2(config-if)#end

R3(config)#ip route 2.2.2.2 255.255.255.255 serial 1/1
R3(config)#interface tunnel 0
R3(config-if)#ipv6 address fec0:abcd::3/64
R3(config-if)#tunnel source loopback 0
R3(config-if)#tunnel destination 2.2.2.2
R3(config-if)#tunnel mode ipv6ip
R3(config-if)#end

Following your configuration, first verify the tunnel using the show interfaces command:

R3#show interfaces tunnel 0
Tunnel0 is up, line protocol is up
Hardware is Tunnel
MTU 1514 bytes, BW 9 Kbit/sec, DLY 500000 usec,
reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255
Encapsulation TUNNEL, loopback not set
Keepalive not set
Tunnel source 3.3.3.3 (Loopback0), destination 2.2.2.2
  Tunnel protocol/transport IPv6/IP
Tunnel TTL 255
Fast tunneling enabled

[Truncated Output]

R2#show interfaces tunnel 0
Tunnel0 is up, line protocol is up
Hardware is Tunnel
MTU 1514 bytes, BW 9 Kbit/sec, DLY 500000 usec,

Next, use a simple ping to verify connectivity across the tunnel:

R3#ping fec0:abcd::2 repeat 100

Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 100, 100-byte ICMP Echos to FEC0:ABCD::2, timeout is 2 seconds:
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Success rate is 100 percent (100/100), round-trip min/avg/max = 4/4/4 ms

Task 4

When configuring MP-BGP, you must specify the router ID using an IPv4 address. In addition, when using Link-Local addresses for peering, you must use the neighbor [address] update-source [interface] command, even for directly connected neighbors. This task is completed as follows:

R2(config)#router bgp 5
R2(config-router)#bgp router-id 2.2.2.2
R2(config-router)#no bgp default ipv4-unicast
R2(config-router)#neighbor fe80::303:303 remote-as 5
R2(config-router)#neighbor fe80::303:303 update-source tunnel 0
R2(config-router)#address-family ipv6 unicast
R2(config-router-af)#neighbor fe80::303:303 activate
R2(config-router-af)#end

R3(config)#router bgp 5
R3(config-router)#bgp router-id 3.3.3.3
R3(config-router)#no bgp default ipv4-unicast
R3(config-router)#neighbor fe80::202:202 remote-as 5
R3(config-router)#neighbor fe80::202:202 update-source tunnel 0
R3(config-router)#address-family ipv6 unicast
R3(config-router-af)#network 3fff:3333:3333:3333::/64
R3(config-router-af)#neighbor fe80::202:202 activate
R3(config-router-af)#end

Following this configuration, use the show bgp ipv6 unicast summary and show bgp ipv6 unicast commands to verify your implementation:

R2#show bgp ipv6 unicast summary

And finally, complete this task by pinging the R3 LAN subnet from R2 as follows:

R2#ping 3FFF:3333:3333:3333::3 repeat 100

Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 100, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 3FFF:3333:3333:3333::3, timeout is 2 seconds:

Task 6

By default, when redistributing between IPv6 protocols, connected subnets are not included. It is important to remember to explicitly redistribute them. First redistribute between RIPng and MP-BGP on R2 as follows:

R2(config)#route-map CONNECTED-TO-BGP permit 10
R2(config-route-map)#match interface serial 0/0
R2(config-route-map)#exit
R2(config)#ipv6 router rip R2-RIP
R2(config-rtr)#redistribute connected metric 1
R2(config-rtr)#redistribute bgp 5 metric 2
R2(config-rtr)#exit
R2(config)#router bgp 5
R2(config-router)#address-family ipv6 unicast
R2(config-router-af)#redistribute connected route-map CONNECTED-TO-BGP
R2(config-router-af)#redistribute rip R2-RIP
R2(config-router-af)#bgp redistribute-internal
R2(config-router-af)#end

Next, verify your RIPng redistribution by looking at the routing table on R1 as follows:

R1#show ipv6 route
IPv6 Routing Table – 7 entries
Codes: C – Connected, L – Local, S – Static, R – RIP, B – BGP
U – Per-user Static route
I1 – ISIS L1, I2 – ISIS L2, IA – ISIS interarea, IS – ISIS summary
O – OSPF intra, OI – OSPF inter, OE1 – OSPF ext 1, OE2 – OSPF ext 2
ON1 – OSPF NSSA ext 1, ON2 – OSPF NSSA ext 2
C   3FFF:1111:1111:1111::/64 [0/0] via ::, FastEthernet0/0
L   3FFF:1111:1111:1111::1/128 [0/0] via ::, FastEthernet0/0
R   3FFF:2222:2222:2222::/64 [120/2] via FE80::204:C1FF:FE6F:8741, Serial0/0
R   3FFF:3333:3333:3333::/64 [120/2]
     via FE80::204:C1FF:FE6F:8741, Serial0/0
L   FE80::/10 [0/0] via ::, Null0
R   FEC0:ABCD::/64 [120/2]
     via FE80::204:C1FF:FE6F:8741, Serial0/0
L   FF00::/8 [0/0] via ::, Null0

Additionally, verify MP-BGP redistribution by looking at the MP-BGP RIB on R2 as follows:

R2#show bgp ipv6 unicast
BGP table version is 7, local router ID is 2.2.2.2
Status codes: s suppressed, d damped, h history, * valid, > best, i – internal,
r RIB-failure, S Stale
Origin codes: i – IGP, e – EGP, ? – incomplete

Network          Next Hop            Metric LocPrf Weight Path
*> 3FFF:1111:1111:1111::/64
::                       2         32768 ?
*>i3FFF:3333:3333:3333::/64
                    FE80::303:303            0    100      0 i

Next, redistribute between MP-BGP and OSPFv3 on R3 as follows:

R3(config)#route-map CONNECTED-TO-BGP permit 10
R3(config-route-map)#match interface serial 0/0
R3(config-route-map)#exit
R3(config)#ipv6 router ospf 3
R3(config-rtr)#redistribute connected
R3(config-rtr)#redistribute bgp 5
R3(config-rtr)#exit
R3(config)#router bgp 5
R3(config-router)#address-family ipv6 unicast
R3(config-router-af)#redistribute connected route-map CONNECTED-TO-BGP
R3(config-router-af)#redistribute ospf 3
R3(config-router-af)#bgp redistribute-internal
R3(config-router-af)#end

Verify your configuration by looking at the LSDB and MP-BGP RIB on R3 as follows:

R3#show ipv6 ospf database
