VLANs and VTP – VLANs and the VLAN Trunking Protocol

In this chapter, we are going to be learning about Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) and the VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP). A VLAN is a logical grouping of hosts that appear to be on the same LAN regardless of their physical location. The VLAN Trunking Protocol is a Cisco proprietary Layer 2 messaging protocol that manages the addition, deletion, and renaming of VLANs on a network-wide scale.
