VTP is a Cisco proprietary Layer 2 messaging protocol that manages the addition, deletion, and renaming of VLANs on switches in the same VTP domain. VTP allows VLAN information to propagate through the switched network, which reduces administration overhead in a switched network, while enabling switches to exchange and maintain consistent VLAN information.
