High Availability (HA) is an integral component when designing and implementing switched networks. HA is technology delivered in Cisco IOS Software that enables network-wide resilience to increase IP network availability. All network segments must be resilient enough to recover quickly so that faults are transparent to users and network applications. In addition to understanding HA, it is also important to understand the tools that are integrated into Cisco IOS software, or are supported by Cisco and are used to monitor network availability.
