Troubleshooting Site-to-Site VPNs

VPN problems are most commonly caused by device misconfigurations. Common errors made when implementing a VPN solution include tunnel and IPsec misconfigurations. The following are common issues that should be considered when establishing or troubleshooting site-to-site VPNs:

  • Overlapping IP address space
  • GRE and IPsec configurations
  • MTU size
  • Routing problems
  • Device resource utilization

 

Overlapping IP Address Space

Given the significant use of private addressing space in IPv4 networks, it is not uncommon for multiple sites to have overlapping addresses, as illustrated in Figure 13 . . .
